About

This is a fansite for the Norwegian author Per Petterson. I have set up this site because I like Per Petterson’s novels a lot, and because I  have noticed that there was no web site for Per Petterson. I sincerely think he deserves more of a web presence!

During the last few days we have struggled to create a good looking and attractive web design for this site – including layout, formats, use of colors etc. But even with the basics of these now more or less in place, the site is still under contruction, and I will be adding more content about the author; his books, some news, links to interviews, and more.

This site is affiliated with google and amazon. You can support the site by using the links provided here. Just to be clear on this issue: This site is not expected to make  money! This is a hobby site – I do not expect to be paid for the hours spent on this. However, the very few dollars I may make on these ads will hopefully contribute towards the costs associated with developing the site, software used and to costs of hosting the site.

We hope the site can help to make the literary qualities of award winning author Per Petterson more visible on the internet, and perhaps make a few more people read his books!

If you have questions or comments, book reviews or stories you want to submit, or want to sponsor the site or post and ad here, get in touch with us at Peter (at) perpetterson.com!

You can purchase a gift certificate from amazon from this blog! The perfect gift, and support for this site as well. Two in one!

I was delighted to find this site as I have read two of Petterson’s books (albeit only in English), Out Stealing Horses and In Siberia. I have just completed the latter and am commencing In the Wake. I found In Siberia to be a heart-rending story which left me crying as I read the final page and, especially, the last line. It was so sad, but set against the beautifully described backgrounds of Denmark, Sweden and Norway. I am well-read but I cannot recall any book eliciting such a strong emotional surge in me. Wonderful, wonderful writer.

Thank you very much for your comment. Yes, Per Petterson is a very fine writer, and his writing style is spare yet very evocative.

I hope you enjoy In the Wake as well!

What a strange thing I am about to say about “Out Stealing Horses”.

As I was reading it in bed last night, extra-slowly so as not to finish it until I have another Per Petterson novel to hand, I had the definite, weird sense that this book was making love to me in the most masterly of ways.

Reading this novel, getting to know Trond, falling like a feather in love with him, vicariously practising his elegant mindfulness, reflecting, noticing nature …

… my own world is different now. There is ‘a difference in the way I am frightened and the way I am happy’.

Out Stealing Horses re-defines beauty in prose, claiming new ground that lies high above the clouds of writers like Byatt and even Marquez.

Exquisite. Thank you Mr Petterson.

I read our stealing with horses for my book club – it was a very thought provoking book and I could relate to the solitude

but for the life of me I could not understand the ending
